Cash Reserves Used to Lower Tax Levy

At the December 6, 2016 Lake Elmo city council meeting, the city council voted 3-2 to use additional cash reserves to lower the tax levy. Excerpt:  “Some say the one time spending should go toward reducing debt or other needs in the city……..both Pearson and Bloyer opposed the use of cash reserves to lower the general tax levy”.  Quote from Mayor Pearson:  “We are using a lot of fees to subsidize the budget, and that is well and good, but correct me if I’m wrong, we are going to spend more money next year than we ever have before and we are lowering the levy and not collecting as much.”
